SUMMER RECRUITMENT 2012

INDIGO is an English club in Hanoi which has been operating since 2007. Its current programs focus in hosting events that help young people to practice English, to cultivate soft skills, and to have better understanding of cultural diversity and social issues. Indigo's main activities include debates, workshops, and fact-finding trips (out-door activities).

We are now seeking eight qualified candidates to be our new key members.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

- Prepare and organize creatively Debate, Workshop or Fact-finding trip, assure the quality of activities

- Plan and implement PR activities to promote the image of INDIGO club

- Cooperate well with the Vietnamese as well as foreign volunteering clubs in holding events

- Support in the logistics of organizing events and training courses

Qualification Requirements:

- Good command of English (listening, speaking and writing)

- Sense of responsibility and enthusiasm

- Willing to involve in volunteer and social activities

- Ability to work in a team, giving and receiving feedback for mutual understanding and development

- Proven ability to set priorities and manage time

- Ability to work under pressure

- Computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Photoshop will be advantages. 

- Ability to work for at least 5 months and take part in at least 70% of Indigo’s events.

Giới thiệu về INDIGO

                                     Fact-finding trip : The Old Quarter

INDIGO là một dự án dài hạn của tổ chức VPV- tình nguyện vì hoà bình, được thành lập từ tháng 11 năm 2007. Mục đích chính của câu lạc bộ là nơi chia sẻ , giao lưu , học hỏi của các bạn trẻ đến từ nhiều trường khác nhau trên địa bàn Hà Nội. Đến với INDIGO các bạn sinh viên không chỉ tìm thấy một môi trường cởi mở thân thiện để trau dồi tiếng anh giao tiếp, mà còn tìm hiểu những kiến thức xã hội, kĩ năng hữu ích trong cuộc sống, và kết bạn với những người bạn thú vị từ nhiều ngành nghề khác nhau.

•  Trong suốt thời gian hơn 3 năm hoạt động từ tháng 11 năm 2007 đến tháng 11 năm 2010, CLB đã thu hút gần 4000 lượt học sinh, sinh viên Việt Nam tham gia và gần 400 lượt tham gia của tình nguyện viên quốc tế

•  INDIGO tổ chức 2 tuần 1 lần các workshop (hội thảo nhỏ và thảo luận nhóm) tại một địa điểm cố định trong địa bàn nội thành Hà Nội với thời lượng thông thường là 2 giờ đồng hồ mỗi buổi. Từ thời điểm tháng 6 năm 2010, câu lạc bộ INDIGO đã chuyển về địa điểm trụng tâm EQUEST, 38 Hàng Cháo Hà Nội để hoạt động. Tại đây các hoạt động workshop của INDIGO vẫn được duy trì 2 tuần 1 tuần. Chủ đề của các workshop rất đa dạng và phong phú, từ những vấn đề vĩ mô như “Biến đổi khí hậu toàn cầu”, “Bình đẳng giới”, các tổng hợp bao quát như “thiên văn học”, cho đến những vấn đề cụ thể, tường tận hằng ngày như “Kỹ năng lãnh đạo”, “Du lịch giá rẻ”, “Trang phục truyền thống Nhật Bản”, “Du lịch và làm việc tại Mỹ”... Tất cả mọi chủ đề, khía cạnh trong nội dung mỗi workshop đều được phân tích, thảo luận và đánh giá với dưới quan điểm từ nhiều phía gồm sinh viên Việt Nam, tình nguyện viên Việt Nam, các bạn bè quốc tế và khách mời chuyên gia. Với môi trường nói tiếng anh thân thiện và sự cởi mở trong việc chia sẻ quan điểm sống, các kỹ năng, hiểu biết, …các bạn trẻ đã được hòa mình vào một không gian đa văn hóa mở và được thu lượm cũng như đóng góp những thông tin, kỹ năng hữu ích. Trong một số chủ đề workshop như “khả năng lãnh đạo “ ,“ du lịch giá rẻ”, “ làm việc và du lịch tại Mĩ”, INDIGO luôn luôn tìm tòi và triển khai những tình huống khó khăn mà các bạn trẻ thường xuyên gặp phải trong cuộc sống để đưa vào phần : kĩ năng giải quyết vấn đề. Chính trong những phần thảo luân bằng tiểu phẩm như thế này, các bạn trẻ có thể trải nghiệm những khó khăn thực tế , thảo luận với cả nhóm và đưa ra cách xử lý tình huống tốt nhất. Không chỉ có thế ,cho mỗi chủ đề , INDIGO cũng luôn lựa chọn và mời đến workshop những khách mời kinh nghiệm trong lĩnh vực đó. Chính các khách mời này đã góp phần mang lại nét đặc sắc cho mỗi chủ đề vì họ - những khách mời kinh nghiệm sẽ mang lại những kiến thức thực tiễn và chia sẻ những lời khuyên tốt nhất cho các bạn trẻ trong hành trang vào đời.

• Ngoài hoạt động workshop, INDIGO còn tổ chức các chuyến đi tìm hiểu thực tế (fact-finding trip) một tháng một lần, rất được các bạn trẻ quan tâm. Các chuyến đi này sẽ đưa các bạn trẻ đến tham quan, tìm hiểu thêm về những danh lam thắng cảnh nổi tiếng của đất nước và tham dự những trò chơi, những cuộc thi thú vị mang tính đồng đội cao do INDIGO phát động. Điểm thu hút của chương trình chính là việc đương đầu với những khó khăn hóc búa mà ban tổ chức đem lại cùng với việc đạt được những kiến thức thực tế về địa danh, và quan trọng nhất là các bạn trẻ có cơ hội được luyện tập tiếng anh trong những hoạt động nhóm như này. Những điểm đến của Fact-finding trip  là phố cổ Hà Nội, Làng cổ Đường Lâm, Bảo tàng Dân tộc học…và sẽ có thêm nhiều điểm đến tuyệt đẹp khác chờ bạn khám phá.

• Trong khoảng thời gian từ tháng 3 năm 2010 đến hết tháng 12 năm 2010, INDIGO đã tổ chức thành công 14 hội thảo với nhiều chủ đề đa dạng phong phú và thiết thực, 1 hội đàm (“Xã hội minh bạch và bền vững nằm trong tay thế hệ trẻ” – kết hợp cùng Live&Learn và VYF), 1 hội thảo tuyên truyền phòng chống HIV AIDS (kết hợp cùng tổ chức sinh viên quốc tế AIESEC) ,4 fact-finding trip (“2 tại phố cổ Hà Nội, 1 làng cổ Đường Lâm, 1 bảo tàng dân tộc học”). Hứa hẹn trong năm 2011, INDIGO sẽ trở lại và mang tới những chương trình mới lạ, tươi trẻ và bổ ích,  thu hút đông đẩo các bạn học sinh sinh viên trên địa bàn Hà Nội. 

INDIGO - An overview

INDIGO - one of the long-term projects of VPV - focuses not only in intercultural exchange but also skills training to help young people to get closer to culture diversity and social issues.

• During more than 2 years of operation ( Nov, 2007 - Jan, 2010), INDIGO has attracted more than 4000 students from different schools, universities across Hanoi as well as nearly 400 international friends.

• INDIGO holds workshop every 2 weeks with the average duration of 2 hours per workshop. The topics are various and diversified, from big matters like “climate change”, “gender equality”, “globalization” to specific ones like “Leadership”, “Cheap Travel”, “American Country Music”, “Conflict management” and “Work and travel USA”. All the topics are analyzed, discussed and evaluated under the viewpoints of people from different countries, under several aspects. INDIGO environment enables Vietnamese young people to live diversity and collect useful knowledge and skills which will assist them in the context of globalization. Moreover, INDIGO also provide a favorable environment for young people to meet, talk, share, and most important enhance their English skills. In some workshops such as : leadership , cheap travel , cohabitation , work and travel USA, we always try to find out the most practical problems that people sometimes face in real life to put in the problem solving section. For this reason , workshop not only brings the practical knowledge and experience to the young, but also workshop helps the students to discuss together to find the best solution for these problems. Additionally, for each topic, the suitable experienced guests also are invited to share their practical knowledge about the topic, give out the advices and recommendations, which is one of the most prominent feature of INDIGO workshop.

• Beside Workshop, each month INDIGO holds a fact-finding trip. Each fact-finding trip gives youngsters the chance to go sightseeing, discover beautiful sites and join in interesting games operated by INDIGO. Moreover, on the journey, participants have opportunities to make friends, interact with each other and international volunteers also. In addition, to foreigner volunteers, joining our fact-finding trip is the best chance to go sightseeing in order to discover the hidden charm of Hanoi. Accidentally, you will widen your knowledge about this ancient city as well as make friend with local students. Some of Fact-finding trip’s destinations were Hanoi Old quarters, Duong Lam Ancient village, Museum of Ethnology and many more beautiful places are waiting for you.

Training session for Indigo key members

On Sunday, 18 April 2010, VPV (Volunteers for peace Vietnam) organized a special training session for Indigo key members with an aim to improving the communication between facilitators and workshop participants. Under the control of Mr. Lam, Ms. Hong and Sarah from VPV, Indigo received a lot of useful lessons that can apply to Indigo workshops as well as other kinds of public activities.

The training kicked off with a series of games: hand-shaking game, greeting game and watermelon-eating game.

The first game brought up a messy scene as all participants stood in 2 circle, the smaller circle inside the bigger circle and started to shake hands with each other in no order. The chaos was ended after Mr. Lam revealed the purpose of the game: to show that in public activities, controlling the participants’ actions is the most important.

The greeting game gave us another lesson in how to make aquaintant with people in a friendly way. Similarly, the third game – watermelon eating – demonstrated the necessity of quick response and listening skills.

After 3 warm-up games, the training went on with 3 exercises which required more brainstorming, teamwork and physical activities!

First, each participant was allowed to choose 2 pictures from a load of pictures about human’s impact on the environment cut from newspaper and magazines. Then all participants were divided into groups of 3 and had to make up a complete story from those 6 pictures. Creativity was pushed to the maximum, which reflected in the diverse topics created, from Tay Nguyen’s urbanization to Iran and Russia’s meeting and the reasons for climate change. Through this game, teamwork and communication skills were effectively used and improved!

The next exercise focused on the connecting skill, by dividing the participants into 2 teams, showing each team a picture and requiring them draw that picture based on the descriptions of teammates. The final result showed a big gap between the two teams and obviously demonstrated which team was better at finding the important details, describing accurately and quicker in transfering the data.

The last and also the hardest exercise was for the participants to guest Laura’s height based on pieces of information, 2 of which were given to each participant. Only one participant gave the right answer, the others just missed out one important datum. What did we learn from that? The core of teamwork was sharing and asking.

For the conclusion, Sarah gave us a number of key learnings from the training, all of which were extremely useful and can apply to our next workshops. Be assured that when you guys come back to Indigo, you will realize the difference in our way of organization thanks to this training.

What does VOVINAM mean to you?
VOVINAM is the only kind of material arts originated from Vietnam.
“VO” here stands for Material Art; “VINAM” stands for Vietnam. It includes hand, elbow, kick, escape and levering techniques. Both attack and defense technique are trained as well as forms, combat and traditional wrestling.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT- The Art of Human Behavior

Conflict arises wherever human being exists. Whenever two people come into contact, the potential for conflict abounds. Conflict happens within families, at workplace, between groups in our society and right in the middle of our most personal relationship. Apparently, conflict is inevitable to anyone. It is not whether you encounter conflict in your life. It is what you do with conflict that makes difference.
